Victory!

From ADA National Director Amy Isaacs: All right, we admit we've started the day with a grin on our faces.  Last night's sweeping Obama victory is something we will cherish for years to come and you helped make the dream a reality.

Now, however, the real work begins.  And, the results of the Senate and House races, while encouraging, mean that we will have our work cut out for us.  Despite a clear mandate for change at the top, voters have guaranteed that a diminishing Right-wing minority in the Senate can still thwart the will of the electorate.  We must not let that happen.  This is an opportunity we cannot afford to squander and we know that President Obama will need our help if the vision he so articulately painted last night is to become a reality.

We are reminded of a meeting that took place a generation ago when a group of ADA leaders met with President John F. Kennedy.  At that meeting, President Kennedy was surrounded by members of his Administration - almost all of whom were ADA founders.  Kennedy told the ADAers in the room that, as President and even with that group of leading liberals surrounding him, he was constantly being pushed to the right.  He told the ADA delegation that he needed the countervailing pressure from ADA and he asked for our help.

Are we proud of what happened last night?  You betcha!  But, we know that President Obama - like President Kennedy - will need our constant vigilance and help if his bright vision for America is to become a reality.  We pledge to you we will be there.  We will ask for your support and we know that, with your help, we will prevail.

So, Celebrate and, then, roll up your sleeves and join us in the fight for an even brighter tomorrow.
