Can’t Stop Chronicles: Matt Swim, Strategic Account Manager

adaction company culture

What would any company be without its amazing team members? Here at AdAction, we’ve developed a team of incredible people who bring their own unique qualities and strengths to the table. This team of innovative individuals is part of what makes AdAction different from other companies, coming together to push the business to its full potential.

Who are these people, you ask? We’re going to introduce them to you in our newest series – Can’t Stop Chronicles – to help put a face to the driving force behind our “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” motto. For our first spotlight, we sat down with the recently promoted Strategic Account Manager in the Denver office, Matt Swim.

What’s your title and how long have you worked at AdAction?

I recently celebrated my one year anniversary with the company. I was previously a Client Service Coordinator, which is AdAction’s entry-level position. It’s a great position to learn the business from the inside out while working with every department. Mobile advertising has a lot to take in; there are so many terms and industry knowledge, but this position allowed me to really learn the business as a whole. In college, I took a class on account management and it’s been on my radar ever since. I didn’t know Strategic Account Manager was a position at AdAction until I got here, so I figured out what path could get me here and how I could gain the right experience to succeed.

What does your new position as Strategic Account Manager entail?

I work with the other account managers a lot. Sarah Greenlee, Director of Strategic Accounts, took me under her wing and showed me the ropes. She really helped me get to where I am today. My day-to-day consists of campaign optimization, calls with clients, answering emails, and learning how to communicate with our Media team.

What do you enjoy most about working at AdAction?

The people and the culture. We hire a lot of like-minded people that have the same drive and interests; people who want to see the company and their coworkers succeed. Obviously the keg is nice, but we do a lot of fun team building activities like our staff retreat and happy hours. Here, coworkers aren’t just coworkers, they’re your friends.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in the past year?

Don’t be afraid to take a chance, or more importantly, don’t be afraid to fail. The biggest lessons I’ve learned during my time here have been when I’ve made mistakes. Making mistakes and learning from them has made me a better employee and better at my job.

Matt’s transition into Strategic Account Manager began with Action360 —  a training program that enables our entry level employees to gain a 360 understanding of the business from within and outside their department. Action360 gives our team the opportunity to learn and develop skills in unfamiliar areas by shadowing members and working on tasks from each department, allowing employees to discover their career path interests and building their industry expertise.

While Matt doesn’t hide his fun side in the office, we got to learn a little more about the account manager who spends his free time golfing, snowboarding, checking out breweries, and playing guitar and video games.

What’s a fun fact about you most people may not know?

I’ve seen The Office all the way through over 15 times.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

No. I feel like a sandwich has to be two seperate pieces of bread. It’s a more of taco if anything.

Who would play you in a movie and what kind of movie would it be?

Jack Black would play me because we’re both devilishly handsome. The movie would be a romcom where I look for love in all the wrong places.

Favorite type of noodle?

There’s so many. If you asked me in college it would’ve been ramen, but I’ve matured like a fine wine. Now it’s gotta be the Wagon Wheel. It’s just a fun noodle.
